Today is the 9th day since the Ethiopian election board suspended the announcement of the May 24 elections results.
On May 25, the election board reported that the ruling junta has won 100% of the 422 seats in parliament that it "counted." That is 80% of the 547-seat parliament. What happened to the remaining 125 seats?
As we reported last week, the ruling party ordered the election board to suspend further reporting of results after the preliminary results has caused a worldwide ridicule of the election. Since then, the ruling TPLF/EPRDF has been meeting secretly to decide a face-saving way out of the disaster. One of the solutions they are reportedly discussing, but unable to decide yet, is handing out the remaining 125 seats to the beleaguered opposition parties whose members continue to be harassed, arrested and beaten up by TPLF's armed thugs. Stay tune for new developments.
